Innovations in laser technology have made the treatment of skin irregularities such as age spots, broken capillaries, rosacea, and sun damage easier than ever before. Lasers can also be used for cosmetic dermatology procedures such as hair removal and collagen stimulation. Dr. Richard Sherman has equipped The Skin Institute of New Orleans with the latest laser technology to ensure his patients receive state-of-the-art care. Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal can smooth nearly any surface of the skin. Popular treatment areas include the legs, bikini area, underarms, chin, upper lip, and forearms. The neck, shoulders, back, chest, and abdomen are also popular treatment areas with our male dermatology patients.
By focusing light energy on the pigment of unwanted hair follicles, laser hair removal can stop hair production at the base (commonly called the “bulb” or root). Since hair grows in cycles and not all hair follicles are active at once, multiple treatment sessions are typically needed to achieve the patient’s desired results. The pigment of the hair and skin may also impact the total number of required treatments. Patients may purchase bundled treatment packages to save on the total cost of laser hair removal. The Skin Institute of New Orleans uses The GentleMax Pro, the gold standard in laser hair removal and FDA approved to treat all 6-skin types.
Collagen Stimulation & Skin Refinement
Sublative®, a non-ablative laser technique, can stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. Consequently, patients can experience a boost collagen production, improved overall skin texture, and a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. With minimal associated downtime, Sublative® can provide patients with an even skin tone and a smoother, more youthful looking complexion. Many of our patients opt for multiple treatment sessions to optimize their results.
Vascular Lesion & Broken Capillary Treatment
Vascular lesions – including broken capillaries, port wine stains, cherry angiomas, and hemangiomas – are common cosmetic concerns that can be successfully treated with laser therapies. These laser treatments are designed to target the vessels beneath the skin that cause the lesions in order to reduce or eliminate their appearance. While vascular lesion treatment may significantly improve the patient’s condition, new vessels may appear over time if the cause is a more complex underlying skin disorder.
Age Spot Removal
Age spots or brown spots may result from accumulated sun exposure, environmental factors, genetics, or the natural aging process. Typically these spots appear on the areas of the skin most commonly exposed, such as the face, hands, décolleté, and back of the neck. Laser treatments can target these concentrated areas of melanin and reduce hyperpigmentation without affecting the surrounding healthy skin. Dr. Sherman recommends undergoing this treatment in the fall or winter months, and multiple treatments may be needed for deeply pigmented areas.
